Remember your first time riding a bike? Do you remember the first time you got the hang of it – the thrill of pedaling and not falling over? I was fortunate enough to have a bike as a kid to experience those unforgettable milestones. Every kid should be as fortunate.
Enter the Mark J. Reynolds Children’s First Bicycle Fund. Mark Jeffery Reynolds, a native of St. Joseph, Missouri, lost his life in a tragic event while mountain biking near his home in California and the motocross and cycling community suffered a great loss. Now the Children’s First Bicycle Fund operates in his memory, striving to give underprivileged children their first bike.
You can donate to the Children’s First Bicycle Fund on their website – it’s quick, easy and you can help out with any amount. Seriously, instead of that Starbucks frapa-latte-grande-mocha-chino, why not put a smile on a kid’s face that they’ll remember the rest of their lives?
I’ll be doing my part by playing in an SEO charity poker tournament this week in Las Vegas – wish me luck!

It’s always a good feeling when things happen like you want them to in a timely manner. I just had this good feeling when I saw that DMOZ added a site to their directory. The site is for a background check company that I work with. I noticed in their web analytics a referral visit from editors.dmoz.org on May 27. Of course, I immediately went to DMOZ to check if the site had been added, and it had (here’s the page).
I’ve had the mindset that with DMOZ, it’s best to submit the site and then forget about it. Don’t waste your time checking everyday to see if it’s been added. This is because they tend to be very slow in approving submissions (due to a variety of reasons – not enough editors, too many submissions, too many spam submissions, etc.)
With this particular site, I submitted it on February 4, 2009. As always, I followed the submission guidelines to a T. So it took about four months for it to be approved and added to the directory. Still a long time, but at least I know that my 10 minutes of effort back in February have finally resulted in something positive.
Update: Oddly enough, this post seems to be invisible to Google. In fact, my homepage doesn’t even appear to be in the index – how embarrassing! I’ve got some detective work to do.
